Here is our classroom!

We work on the calendar each morning.  We find out what number needs to go next, create a shape or color pattern, and find out how many days we have been in school!  We also use our own calendar book to follow along with the leader!

Each morning we start our writing time by interactive writing.  As a class, we will write a list, story, or informational piece about our unit.  We work together to chop up the sounds in the word.  Once someone hears the sound, that student will come up to the board and either share the pen or write the letter(s) they heard on the paper.  We are great writers!

We work in our writing journals everyday to help us learn the process of sounding out words and letter-sound relationships.  We get to use "kid writing" or "brave spelling" to help us write words all by ourselves! After we earn our sight words, we use our word wall to help us write words like a grown up!  We draw a picture and write about anything we want.

After we finish our journal, we can write around the room.  We can write any words we can find in our classroom.  As the year goes on, we get more writing choices, such as: surveys, book writing, tooth stories, and find 5 words.

After we finish our journals, we get to share our story with the class.  Everyone will get a turn to share their work and hear what great things we have to say about it!  We get to hang our "super sentences" on a special wall so everyone can see what wonderful kid writers we are!

During shared reading or story time, we read a book together and learn about parts of a book.  We practice using a book from front to back, along with following the words from left to right.  As we learn more about stories, we begin to find out about characters, sequence, settings, and even more parts of a story.

Every one to two weeks we will work on a new unit.  We read informational and fictional books about the topic, create a class book, mural, or other project, and write about it in interactive writing.  We use this time to work together with our friends and learn about a new topic!

We learn about math topics using our math centers.  We pattern, count, and explore shapes.

We will learn about colors, shapes, numbers through 100, time, money, and addition!
