Reading
Recovery works like a tripod. It takes
all three "legs" (the Reading Recovery
teacher, the classroom teacher, and the
parent) working together in order for the
child to experience success.
What is
Reading Recovery?
Reading
Recovery is an individualized reading
program for students. It is an intervention
program used to help prevent students from
falling significantly behind their
classmates in reading. The program is
designed to teach children how to read by
providing strategies they can use once they
return to the classroom.
The
lessons last 30 minutes daily and consist of
reading familiar books, letter work,
writing, and reading a new book. Lessons
are very focused and tailored to the
individual child's needs.
Who is
eligible for Reading Recovery?
Students
who are entering first grade for the first
time and are not receiving special education
services for a learning disability are
eligible.
How long
will my child be in Reading Recovery?
The
average Reading Recovery program lasts
sixteen to twenty weeks. A child who
progresses quickly may complete the program
in less time.
