What can we do before coming to school?

Summer is a time for fun!  Practicing before coming to school is not required but it can help them remember what they have learned in Pre-K.

  • Read books to your child!  Visit the local library and check out books.

  • Your child can practice writing his or her first name using a capital letter at the beginning and lowercase letters for the rest!

  • You can also work on recognizing capital and lowercase letters.

  • Draw pictures.  Your child can draw pictures and tell or write about what s/he drew.  Praise all writing efforts!

  • Practice cutting and and using glue at home by making projects out of old tubes, paper, and other supplies lying around the house.

Is your child having trouble learning letters?  Although this skill is not required for the beginning of kindergarten "Leap Frog Letter Factory" is a great way to foster the teaching of letters and sounds.  It was recommended by Michael Heggerty, and I have found my child and many students blossom through watching this fun show!
