What is the purpose of a Title I Reading class? The goal of the Title I program is to assist children in developing and expanding the reading skills taught in the classroom. The purpose is to improve the educational opportunities of children by helping them to feel successful in the regular educational program, attain grade level proficiency, and improve achievement in basic learning skills. At Tri-C, we use My Sidewalks on Scott Foresman Reading Street, an intensive reading intervention program. It is a researched-based, small-group intervention that accelerates struggling readers through lessons focusing on phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension. Students meet daily for 30 minutes of instruction and activities in a small group setting. The reading themes correlate with the third and fourth grade reading program.
