Welcome to Title 1 Reading! What is the purpose and/or goal of a Title I Reading Services The goal of the Title I program is to assist your child in developing and expanding his/her reading skills. The program is designed to provide intensive reading instruction and practice to improve basic reading skills, to help attain grade level reading proficiency, and to encourage confidence and motivation to succeed in reading. During Title I reading time, children are placed into flexible groups. An early intervention program, called My Sidewalks, is used to help guide instruction. The students will learn strategies to help improve reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and other important reading skills. Commonly asked questions about Title 1: How is my child chosen for Title 1? Three times a year, we conduct a reading assessment in reading fluency and comprehension. Student selection is based on these school-wide reading assessment scores, teacher input, STAR testing, and other informal reading assessments. How long is my child out of his/her homeroom class? I work with the groups in my classroom for 30 minutes each day. Will my child be in Title I all year? It depends on the progress your child makes. If he/she makes great gains, then he/she can exit out of the program any time throughout the year. You will be notified if any changes are made!
