This Gershwin masterpiece is stuffed with song and dance as well as, Ken Ludwig’s hilarious dialogue. This musical tells a tale about Bobby Child, an inspired actor, falling in love with Polly Baker, a woman of independence, in the Wild West.

It all begins backstage at the Zangler theatre in the 1930’s. The last performance for the Follies Girls is at an end, and Bobby is determined to win the affection of Zangler in an audition. However, Bobby is rejected and sent on his way. He is later bombarded by his fiancé, Irene, and mother’s demands, and he is forced to choose between the love of his fiancé and banking business in Nevada. He decides to escape their clutches and travel to Deadrock, Nevada to handle taking over a theatre located there.

When Bobby arrives, the town is in shambles and Polly’s father is expecting the banker, Bobby Child, to take the theatre. His daughter, Polly Baker, vows to get even with this “Bobby Child” when he arrived. Bobby instantly falls in love with the spunky Polly the minute he laid eyes on her. He is soon bound to choose between Polly and the theatre. He then comes up with a grand idea of “saving the theatre” by putting on a show. Polly soon agrees until she finds out that Bobby is the real banker.  Bobby is sent on his way, but he decides to still put on the show disguised as Zangler.

The Follies Girls arrive to be in the show, and Polly soon falls in love with Bobby’s impersonation of Zangler. The opening night of the show arrives, and no one comes to see the show. This disappointment changes into realizing how this show changed this town into something spectacular. The real Zangler soon arrives, and Bobby professes his love to her. He tries to convince Polly that he is impersonating Zangler. Polly is not fazed by this comment until she finds Bobby and Zangler together in the saloon. Polly runs out upset and feeling decepted.

The townsfolk vote to give up the show, and Bobby leaves back to New York. Zangler decides to stay in Deadrock to produce the show and spends every last penny on the production. Bobby returns to dead rock to confess his love once again to Polly. That same day, Polly decides to leave her now successful show to find Bobby in New York. The lovers are reunited in Deadrock, and his mother catches eyes with Polly’s father. Irene and the saloon owner, Lank, get married, the lovers embrace at last.
