2008 August Due Dates
The men of Sigma Phi Epsilon at SIUE will award a Balanced Man Scholarship worth $500.00 to one student at SIUE. The scholarship will go to a male student who excels in the areas of scholarship, leadership, athletics, community service, and who exemplifies the Balanced Man ideals of a sound mind and sound body. 2008 December Due Dates
SAE International offers more than 60 corporate and university-sponosored scholarships to qualified students who are interested in the study of engineering and related sciences. Lincolnland Legends is a scholarship program for
juniors and seniors who write an essay on the following topic: Do you
know a Lincolnland Legend? Write an essay about a community member
who deserves recognition in this year’s category, Business and
Community Leadership. 19 essay winners will each receive a $4,000
scholarship. In addition, the top essay will win its author an
additional $12,000 scholarship, and the second place essay will win a
total scholarship of $8,000 scholarship. The application form is available

Any senior girl planning to
major in education may apply for the Florence A. Cook Grant in Aid
of
$300. One student will be selected from Carterville High School to
compete with students from other local schools for this award. See a

2009 January Due Dates
Illinois Electric
Cooperatives will award 7 scholarships of $1,250 each to eligible high
school seniors through the Illinois Electric Cooperative (IEC)
Memorial Scholarship Program. Candidates are judged on the basis of
gpa, ACT score, work and volunteer experience, school and civic
activities, and a short essay. Applicants must be sons or daughters
of Illinois electric cooperative members or employees (E.g. Egyptian
Electric Cooperative Association, SouthEastern Electric
Cooperative). Applications can be downloaded at

Elk’s Most Valuable Student “MVS” Scholarship Award

The
University of Illinois at Springfield and the Illinois Abraham
Lincoln Bicentennial Commission are co-sponsoring a
state-wide contest in
honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of our 16th President.
This
contest is open to Illinois High school students in grades 11 and
12.
Contest categories include historical essay, creative expression in
the

The McKelvey Foundation
offers the McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship
award
($10,000 per year for four years) to high school seniors who have
demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own
businesses while in high school. Students must attend a 4 year
college or university within the 50 states, own and operate a genuine
business (non-profits are eligible), have at least one employee (even
if part time), and complete the application by January 25, 2009.

General Henry Dearborn American History Scholarship

Illinois Daughters of the American Revolution is offered to students

Beta Sigma Psi Lutheran Alumni Scholarship is a
$1,000 award that will be given to a confirmed Lutheran freshman
male beginning his college studies at the University of Illinois,

offers scholarships to high school athletes distinguished in
scholastic, leadership and sportsmanship attributes. Applicant mush

2009 March Due Dates
Peoples National Bank is offering $500 scholarships to high
school graduates in continuing their education at a university, college,
trade or vocational school. Applicant or a parent/guardian of applicant

The Williamson County High School Scholarship, funded by the Williamson County SIU Alumni, will be awarded to deserving senior who will be attending SIUC in 2009-2010. Award amounts vary every year based on contributions received from local donors. The Illinois
Elks Crippled Children’s Corporation
sponsors scholarships for students majoring in physical or occupational
therapy, pre-therapy, or a therapy assistant program. Students are eligible

Seniors
pursuing an agriculture major or career apply online at

The
DCFS Scholarship Program provides a maximum of 48
scholarships each year. Scholarship recipients receive up to four
consecutive years of tuition and academic fee waivers to be used at
participating lllinois state community colleges and universities, a monthly
stipend and a medical card. The Department must have court-ordered legal
responsibility for the applicant, or the Department must have had legal
responsibility for the applicant immediately prior to the adoption being
finalized, or the applicant must be in the Subsidized Guardianship Program.

Mediacom
will award a number of World Class Scholarships for
$1,000 each throughout the Missouri-Kentucky region, which includes
Carterville High School. The scholarship is based on academics, leadership,
and financial need. Applications should be limited to the application form
only. Additional information such as transcripts, resumes, or
recommendation letters should not be attached. See a guidance
counselor for an application. Deadline: March 31, 2009.
Hill Scholarship applications are now available. Students must attend John A. Logan College for two years and earn a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester and remain in good standing at the college. The award also provides monies for two additional years at a four-year college or university under the same requirements. The amount of the award is determined annually. In addition to other eligibility requirements, only those seniors planning to attend John A. Logan College should complete an application. 2009 April Due Dates
Williamson County Scholarship Foundation for Exceptional Students
is offering scholarships for special education students planning to
attend a college or university and scholarships for special
education students transitioning from high school to a work
environment. Completed applications can be picked up in the
guidance office and must be mailed to Williamson County Scholarship
Foundation for Exceptional Students no later than April 1, 2009.
The Mae West Scholarship, Jett West Scholarship, and Wyatt Allen Lindsey & Elizabeth Anne Lindsey Scholarship applications are now available. A native of Carterville, Anne West was a journalist turned professional freelance writer and was the author of both short and book-length fiction. Anne graduated from Carterville High School in 1931, graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1935, and later did postgraduate work in journalism at the University of Missouri. Three scholarships will be awarded to one male graduate of CHS, one female graduate of CHS, and either a male or female graduate of CHS. Download an application here. Southern Illinois Buckmasters Scholarship. Two
scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who reside in
Southern Illinois south of interstate 64. The scholarships are
designed for students who study one of the following areas in
college: Forestry, Wildlife Management, Conservation, or
Agriculture. Applications are available in the guidance office.

The Illinois Cryptic Masons Nurses Foundation Nurses Scholarship applications are now available in the guidance office. The scholarship applicant must submit a completed application form with official high school or college transcript and letters of recommendation to the following address by April 1, 2009. Richard E. The Sgt. Robert M.
McCluskey Scholarship
is awarded to a
student who seeks to pursue a career in the field of Law
Enforcement. This scholarship is presented in remembrance of Sgt.
McCluskey, who dedicated his life to serving the public as a Law
Enforcement Officer, first with the City of Carterville and then
with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department. A $500 Scholarship
will be awarded in 2009 to an applicant enrolled at John A. Logan
College. The application may be downloaded

The Code Enforcement
Officials of Southern Illinois are currently seeking applications
for the Margaret Leleniewski Memorial
Scholarship. To be eligible, you must be a
graduating senior in the upper 40% of class; plan to attend college
or technical school in an architecture, construction related
engineering, building construction technology program or associated
trade; and submit a letter of intent, two letters of recommendation,
and transcripts. Applications can be obtained from the guidance
office and must be submitted to Cheryl Porter, Code Enforcement
Officials of Southern Illinois, c/o City of Edwardsville, 118

Roscoe Pulliam Memorial
Scholarship.
Four scholarships worth $1000 each will be
awarded. Criteria include being a child, grandchild, or sibling to
an alumnus of SIUC who is a current member of the SIU Alumni
Association. A new freshman student must rank in the upper 10% of
his/her high school graduating class and score a minimum of 26 on
the ACT. Financial need of applicant will be considered. Access

Helen & Freeland Williams Scholarship
$1,000 scholarship to be awarded to a 2009
graduating senior at Carterville High School who will attend SIUC in

The Connie Hooker Church and Charles Church Scholarship is awarded to qualifying seniors from Carterville High School who will attend Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. Each scholarship, the amount of which will vary from year to year, will be given when the student enrolls at SIUC.
Recipients will be those who best exemplify the ideals of scholarship and community involvement that guided the lives of Connie and Charles Church.

KAPPA NU SCHOLARSHIP
will be awarded to one
Senior from Carterville High School. The scholarship will be
awarded to a student attending any two or four-year college or
university during the 2009-2010 academic year. The scholarship will
be given when the student submits proof of enrollment at a junior

MidCountry Bank is offering the Core Values Award,
a recognition inspired by the values that guide the organization.
Bank customers and community members can nominate exemplary high
school seniors whose contributions have enriched their communities.
One senior within the counties of Franklin, Gallatin, Jackson,
Jefferson, Massac, Pulaski, Saline, and Williamson will each receive
a $500 scholarship. Nomination forms can be found at

Damas Latinas, a nonprofit organization of Spanish
speaking women founded in 1996 in Southern Illinois, will award four
scholarships in the amount of $150.00 to high school students who
have demonstrated interest and capability in the study of the
Spanish language. Applicants must receive a high school diploma,
must have completed four years of study of the Spanish language,
must have participated in the Spanish Club, and must be accepted to
a college/university for continued studies. G.P.A., academic
interest, school/civic activities, and an essay will also be

The Bank of Carbondale is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a senior graduating from Carterville High School. Selection is based on academic ability, financial need and extra-curricular involvement. Please see a guidance counselor for an application. Deadline: April 17, 2009.

Scholarships to outstanding freshmen males attending University of

The Rotary Club of Carterville is offering three $600 scholarships to Carterville High School graduating seniors. Students must have a three (3) point GPA. The Lions Club is
offering a $500 scholarship to a Carterville senior who will be
attending John A. Logan College in the fall of 2009. The
application should include the following: Name; address; phone
number; high school transcript; an essay that describes the
applicant’s scholarly interests and future plans for college, the
applicant’s present ideas about possible careers, the applicant’s
extra-curricular activities, and the applicant’s community
involvement; and any other information such as letters of
recommendation, news clippings, or other information that the
applicant considers relevant in providing the Committee with a
holistic sense of their qualifications. Applications must be

Tri-C Memorial Scholarship –
Applicants must be a graduating senior at CHS, enrolled at Southern
Illinois University or John A. Logan College and have a GPA of "B"
or better. Scholarships will be awarded to those who seek to carry
on the pursuit of excellence as was demonstrated by those in whose
honor these scholarships were founded: Phillip Janes, Jerry and
Cleo Harris, Connie and Charlie Church. Pick up an application in

Scholarship; a scholarship in honor of the late Emily
Hastie, a former Carterville High School social studies teacher; are

The Will to Win Scholarship Program, sponsored by Schering-Plough, awards a total of $50,000 in scholarships to seniors with asthma who are pursuing higher education. The Carterville American Legion Post 347 and Auxiliary is offering a $600 scholarship to a senior student from Carterville High School who will be attending John A. Logan College in the Fall of 2009. The requirements for application are to print or type a one or two page report to cover the following: future career goals, community and school service performed, grade point average, financial need, and “What Does Freedom Mean to Me?” In addition, the student must provide documentation of a blood relative present or past military active duty in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard and a brief statement as to what that person did in the military. The Kentucky Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon is offering several scholarships to outstanding freshmen males attending Murray State University in the Fall of 2009. The Little Egypt Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will award a $1000 scholarship to a student, male or female, residing in Williamson County, IL. Eligible students should be entering college in the fall of 2009 pursuing a career in the outdoor field (conservation, wildlife biology, farming, conservation police, etc.). Application for this scholarship should be submitted in essay form setting forth educational plans and career goals. Tell about your love of the outdoors, whether it is hunting, hiking, fishing, etc. and supply your picture, preferably featuring an outdoor activity. A transcript should also be included but will not be the deciding factor in the award. References may be included but are not required. LEAD SI is a youth engagement strategy designed to: foster among regional young people a deep appreciation of Southern Illinois by engaging them in peer networking, and helping them to learn important leadership and community development skills; and, to expand the existing leadership base to support the future of Southern Illinois. Students who are chosen to participate will attend a three day institute held on the SIUC campus in June. The leaders are led through a full curriculum developed by university professionals focused on developing skills such as communication, problem solving, team building, and decision making. Following completion of the Institute, leaders continue through a year long schedule of events focused on continuing social networking, leadership development, and appreciation of Southern Illinois. Sophomores and Juniors who are interested in participating in this very valuable program should see a guidance counselor for an application. Application deadline is April 1, 2009.
Southern Illinois Healthcare
offers a High School Summer Internship Program to students planning a career
in healthcare. Qualified students are eligible for a five/six-week internship
program in Laboratory, Nursing, Radiology, Respiratory Therapy, Physical or
Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy or other approved career fields. Students
entering their junior and senior year and graduating seniors are eligible to

SIUC is hosting their 26th annual Challenge to Excellence Summer Program for academically talented students. The program focuses on experiences designed to improve as student’s higher level thinking skills in math, science, and creative writing as well as in other skill and content areas. Students in 5th through 7th grades will attend the program from June 14-June 19, 2009. Students in 8th through 10th grades will attend June 21-June 26, 2009.
