September 2010 Scholarship Due Dates

 The 2011 Psi U Scholarship Grant Program is offering scholarships to three male freshmen attending the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign who exhibit the highest moral, intellectual, and social excellence.  Applications can be found and filled out online, by visiting www.illinipsiu.com.  Application must be uploaded by Monday, September 19, 2011.

October 2010 Scholarship Due Dates

Senior student athletes who have at least a B GPA can apply online for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award by October 3, 2010 at www.wendysheisman.com.  The first 36,000 students who apply will receive a Wendy’s gift card in amounts ranging from $5 to $50.  See a guidance counselor or your coach for more information.

The consulting firm of AES Engineers is committed to continuing its support of higher education by providing $500 scholarships to deserving students.  To be eligible the student needs to answer one of the essay questions that they will find on our site at www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm.  Applications must be submitted by October 8, 2010.

Coca Cola Scholars will award $3 million per year in scholarships to 250 deserving students.  Apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org.  Deadline to receive completed applications: October 31, 2010.
 

The 15th annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards application is available online at www.principals.org/spirit (access key: spirit).  Students in grades 5-12 who have taken part in community service activities over the last year should complete the application and sign and submit to a guidance counselor by November 1, 2010. The school will then nominate the top youth volunteer for state-level honors.  This person will receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award and will become eligible to win an unrestricted award of $1,000 or more, a medallion, and a trip with a parent to Washington DC next spring.

Applications for the Elk's Most Valuable Student "MVS" Scholarship Award are available online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars under the link, "Most Valuable Student Scholarships."  Applications can be filled in online and sent to a printer.  Deadline for submission to the local lodge is November 3, 2010 and should be submitted directly to the Scholarship Chairman, Herrin Elks #1146, Herrin, IL.

December 2011 Scholarship Due Dates

The NASSP/Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Award will award $125,000 in scholarships across the country. Dead line is December 3, 2010. Visit www.principals.org/PLA for more information.

Any senior girl planning to major in education may apply for the Florence A. Cook Grant in Aid of $300.  One student will be selected from Carterville
High School to compete with students from other local schools for this award.  See a guidance counselor for an application.  Applications must be

January 2011 Scholarship Due Dates

Illinois Electric Cooperatives will offer eight scholarships of $1,250 each to high school seniors through the Thomas H. Moore Illinois Electric Cooperatives (IEC) Memorial Scholarship Program.  Four scholarships will be awarded to students who are sons or daughters of an Illinois electric cooperative member receiving service from the cooperative.  A fifth scholarship will be awarded to a son or daughter of an Illinois electric cooperative employee. The sixth and seventh scholarships are reserved for students enrolling full-time at a two-year Illinois community college who are the sons or daughters of Illinois electric cooperative members, employees or directors. The eighth scholarship will help pay for costs to attend the lineworker’s school in conjunction with Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL.  The application can be downloaded here and is due by January 1, 2011. National Multiple Sclerosis Society offers scholarships to students who have MS or have a parent with MS.  Most awards range between $1,000 and $3,000, although a limited amount of awards may exceed this amount.  Applications must be submitted by January 14, 2011.  For more information or to apply, visit www.nationalmssociety.org/scholarship.

The Burger King Scholars Program can be found at www.haveityourwayfoundation.org/burger_king_scholars_program.html under the “Scholarship Eligibility” link.  The application period is November 15, 2010 – January 10, 2011.

Lincolnland Legends Essay Contest:  Illinois Dollars for Scholars invites all current Illinois high school juniors and seniors to participate in the Lincolnland Legends essay scholarship program for a chance to win one of a possible 19 $1,000 college scholarships.  Visit http://www.illinoisdollarsforscholars.org/legends.php for details.  Deadline is January 9, 2011.

The Beta Sigma Psi Lutheran Alumni Scholarship is a $1,000 award that will be given to a confirmed Lutheran freshman male beginning his college studies

February 2011 Scholarship due Dates

Mediacom Communications is offering up to 50  $1,000 scholarships to seniors in areas of 15 states where it conducts business in its North Central Division through its World Class Scholarship Program.  Applications are available via Internet at www.mediacomworldclass.com. The deadline for applications is February 11, 2011

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship applications are available online at www.axa-achievement.com.  Applications must be received by February 15, 2011

Illinois PTA offers 2 scholarships in each of their 5 field service areas.  To be eligible students must be in upper 33% of class and entering an education or education-related degree program.  Applications can be downloaded at www.illinoispta.org and are due on or before February 15, 2011

Farm Credit Services of Illinois will award 25 $1,000 “We Understand” Agriculture Scholarships.  Online registration and application are available at www.fcsillinois.com.  Select the “Scholarships 2011” link.  Application Deadline: February 28, 2011

March 2011 Scholarship Due Dates

US Bank Internet Scholarship Program offers 40 $1,000 scholarships in a random drawing.  Apply online at www.usbank.com/scholarship during October through March.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of illinois being aware of the financial need for many deserving students wishing to continue their education in any post-secondary school or an accredited vocational/technical school, is pleased to announce their scholarship program.  Applicants must provide proof of financial need by submitting a current copy of IRS 1040 or proof of electronic filing, maintain at least a "C" grade average, be a citizen of the US, be a resident of Illinois, and return the application by the deadline of March 1, 2011.  Applications are available at www.ioof-il.org/ under the "Programs" link.

Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation Scholarship Program is offering several different scholarships to Illinois High School Seniors.  Please visit www.ilamvets.org under the “Programs” link for additional information and to download scholarship applications.  Application deadline is March 1, 2011.

The National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) Scott/St. Louis Chapter applications may be downloaded at www.ndtascottstlouis.org/.  Although all students may apply, preference will be given to students pursuing careers in Business, Transportation Logistics, and Physical Distribution.  Completed applications must be postmarked NO LATER THAN March 1, 2011.

Williamson County High School Scholarships, awarded by the Williamson County Chapter of the SIU Alumni Association, are now available at www.siualumni.com/scholarships.  All application materials must arrive (not postmarked or faxed) in the SIU Alumni Association Office prior to the application deadline of 4:30 PM, Friday, March 4, 2011.

"Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year" (SAMMY) 2011 Award Program.  25 winners
will receive a $7,500 college scholarship based on academic performance (35%), athletic excellence (35%), leadership (15%), community service(10%), and milk experience (5%).  For official rules and an application visit www.bodybymilk.comDeadline:  March 4, 2011.

Marion Memorial Health Foundation Board is pleased to provide the following
scholarships:  $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from the area high schools (including Carterville) and the R.D. Morgan, M.D. medical scholarship to a Marion High School senior who is pursuing a career as a medical doctor.  If no MHS senior meets the qualifications, the scholarship

The Connor Fenton Memorial Scholarship Committee is offering ten $5,000.00 scholarships to CHS Class of 2011 students.  Completed applications must be turned in to a guidance counselor by March 15, 2011.  Download an application here.

The University of Mississippi will conduct its 27th Chancellor’s Leadership Class (CLC).  CLC students will receive a $1000 scholarship for their freshman year.  If you have been admitted to the University of Mississippi and would like to be considered for this nomination, please see a guidance counselor before March 15, 2011.

The Dale L. Usher, Sr. Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Carterville High School graduate enrolled in the Construction Management program at John A. Logan College. Applications can be downloaded "here" and must be completed and returned to the guidance office by Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

The Bank of Carbondale is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a senior graduating from Carterville High School.  Selection is based on academic ability, financial need, extra-curricular involvement, community service. The SIUC Legacy Scholarship is set up to assist those students who have a relative that is an alumnus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Scholarship applicants who have a parent, grandparent, sibling, step-parent or legal guardian that is an SIU alumnus and has been an active member of the SIU Alumni Association for three of the past five years will be given preference.  Access the application at www.siualumni.com/legacy . Roscoe Pulliam Memorial Scholarship.  Four scholarships worth $1000 each will be awarded.  Criteria include being a child, grandchild, or sibling to an alumnus of SIUC who is a current member of the SIU Alumni Association.  A new freshman student must rank in the upper 10% of his/her high school graduating class and score a minimum of 26 on the ACT.  Financial need of applicant will be considered.  Access the application at  www.siualumni.com/pulliamDeadline:  March 31, 2011

The Code Enforcement Officials of Southern Illinois are currently seeking applications for the Margaret Leleniewski Memorial Scholarship.  To be eligible, you must be a graduating senior in the upper 40% of class; plan to attend college or technical school in an architecture, construction related engineering, building construction technology program or associated trade; and submit a letter of intent, two letters of recommendation, and transcripts.  Applications can be obtained here and must be submitted to Sharon Walter, Code Enforcement Officials of Southern Illinois, 1401 Olive Street, Highland, IL 62249.  Deadline:  March 31, 2011.

April 2011 Scholarship Due Dates

Illinois Lumber and Material Dealers Association Educational Foundation will award academic scholarships to selected students to pursue industry-related course work at colleges and universities.  For eligibility requirements and a scholarship application, visit www.ilmda.com/Education.html.   Completed applications must be mailed by April 1, 2011.

Southern Illinois Buckmasters Scholarship.  Two scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who reside in Southern Illinois south of interstate 64.  The scholarships are designed for students who study one of the following areas in college:  Forestry, Wildlife Management, Conservation, or Agriculture.  Applications are available here.  Deadline:  April 1, 2011.

The Crosswalk Community Action Agency is awarding scholarships to Franklin, Williamson, Jefferson and Jackson county recipients.  Applicants must meet low income guidelines.  Download an application here Deadline:  April 1, 2011.

Hill Scholarship applications are now available. Students must attend John A. Logan College for two years and earn a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester and remain in good standing at the college. The award also provides monies for two additional years at a four-year college or university under the same requirements. The amount of the award is determined annually. In addition to other eligibility requirements, only those seniors planning to attend John A. Logan College should download an application. Click on the following links for copies of the letter to applicant; rules, criteria, and guidelines; application; and directions for letters of support. Helen & Freeland Williams Scholarship $1,000 scholarship to be awarded to a 2011 graduating senior at Carterville High School who will attend SIUC in the Fall of 2011. The applications can be downloaded here.  Deadline is April 4, 2011.

The Calvert Scholarship: Carterville High School Seniors who complete an application and compose an essay will be considered for this scholarship. The committee will consider academic accomplishment, extra-curricular activities, participation in activities outside of school, potential for success in college, character, and recommendations from teachers or members of the community. Williamson County CrimeStoppers will offer a $500 scholarship to a student who will be attending a two year or four year accredited college or university in the State of Illinois, and is enrolled or enrolling in a law enforcement or criminal justice program.  Download an application here.  Completed applications must be postmarked by April 5, 2011 and mailed to Williamson County Crimestoppers, Inc.,  P.O. The Ameren Illinois Minority Scholarship is available to minority students who plan to major in an engineering discipline.  The application is available on the Ameren corporate website at www.ameren.com.  Click on “Ameren Corporate Home” , “Community Members”, “Illinois Community Members”, and then “Scholarships.”    Deadline:  Friday, April 8, 2011.

The Mae West Scholarship, Jett West Scholarship, and Wyatt Allen Lindsey & Elizabeth Anne Lindsey Scholarship applications are now available.  A native of Carterville, Anne West was a journalist turned professional freelance writer and was the author of both short and book-length fiction.  Anne graduated from Carterville High School in 1931 and graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1935 and later did postgraduate work in journalism at the University of Missouri.  Three scholarships will be awarded to one male graduate of CHS, one female graduate of CHS, and either a male or female graduate of CHS.  Download an application here.  Applications and all accompanying materials must be completed and returned to the guidance office.  Deadline:  April 8, 2011.

The Richard and Evelyn Helms Scholarship is available to a student planning to attend JALC.  The application can be downloaded here and must be completed and returned to the guidance office.  Deadline:  April 8, 2011.

The Frank Cluck "Papa C" Scholarship is a $1000 scholarship to be awarded to two 2011 graduating seniors at Carterville High School who plans to pursue a college degree. Click here for an application.  Deadline:  April 11, 2011.

The Xi Kappa Nu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority will award a scholarship to one Senior from Carterville High School.  The scholarship will be awarded to a student attending any two or four-year college or university during the 2011-2012 academic year.  The scholarship will be given when the student submits proof of enrollment at a junior college or university.  To download a copy of the application, click here.  Applications must be completed and returned to the guidance office. The Rotary Club of Carterville is offering three $600 scholarships to Carterville High School graduating seniors. Students must have a three (3) point GPA. Future plans/goals are strong considerations for these awards. One recipient must attend John A. The men of Sigma Phi Epsilon at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will award several Balanced Man Scholarships.  The scholarships will go to  male students who excel in the areas of scholarship, leadership, athletics,community service, and who exemplify the Balanced Man ideals of a sound mind and sound body.  Please visit www.illinoissigeps.com for the application. The Sgt. Robert M. McCluskey Scholarship is awarded to a student who seeks to pursue a career in the field of Law Enforcement.  This scholarship is presented in remembrance of Sgt. McCluskey, who dedicated his life to serving the public as a Law Enforcement Officer, first with the City of Carterville and then with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department.  A $500 Scholarship will be awarded in 2011 to an applicant enrolled at John A. Logan College.  The application may be downloaded here and must be completed and postmarked by April 20, 2011.

Damas Latinas invites seniors to participate in the Spanish Essay Contest 2011.  Damas Latinas is a nonprofit organization founded in 1996 in Southern Illinois.  It has created an Economic Fund Program, a scholarship with the purpose of promoting among high school students the value of education as well as the importance of studying the Spanish language.  This year, they will offer four $150.00 scholarships to seniors who have: a 3.0 gpa or higher, three years of Spanish, one letter of recommendation from a school faculty member, and an essay written in Spanish.  Download the informational sheet here.   Completed applications must be postmarked by April 21, 2011.

Carterville Chamber of Commerce and John A. Logan College offer a one year (30 Credit Hour) tuition scholarship.  Scholarship applications can be downloaded here.  Applications must be completed and returned to the guidance office by April 22, 2011.

Tri-C Memorial Scholarship – Two scholarships to students planning to attend SIUC and one scholarship to a student planning to attend JALC will be awarded. Applicants must be graduating seniors at CHS, enrolled at Southern Illinois University -Carbondale or JALC and have a GPA of "B" or better.  Pick up an application in the guidance office.  Applications must be postmarked by April 24, 2011.

The Connie Hooker Church and Charles Church Scholarship is awarded to qualifying seniors from Carterville High School who will attend Southern Illinois University of Carbondale.  Each scholarship, the amount of which will vary from year to year, will be given when the student enrolls at SIUC.  Recipients will be those who best exemplify the ideals of scholarship and community involvement that guided the lives of Connie and Charles Church.  The application can be downloaded here and must be completed and mailed by April 29, 2011.

 

May 2011 Scholarship Due Dates

The Southern Illinois Healthcare Scholarship Program brings together college scholarship money with hands-on work opportunities in southern Illinois for students pursuing degrees in healthcare.  Qualified applicants are eligible for money to cover tuition, lab fees, books and educational supplies.  Recipients will be required to sign a contractual work agreement, stating they will work for SIH after graduating from their healthcare discipline.  See a guidance counselor for more information.  Deadline:  May 1st of each year.

The Carterville American Legion Post 347 and Auxiliary is offering a $600 scholarship to a senior student from Carterville High School who will be attending John A. Logan College in the Fall of 2011.  The requirements for application are to print or type a one or two page report to cover the following:  future career goals, community and school service performed, grade point average, financial need, and “What Does Freedom Mean to Me?”  In addition, the student must provide documentation of a blood relative present or past military active duty in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard and a brief statement as to what that person did in the military.  Applications must be submitted to the guidance office by May 2, 2011
