Ongoing Deadlines
SIUC is offering the Southern Stars 20% Tuition
Reduction program to
students who qualify for an Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG). In order
to qualify, students must
*apply for financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) and be determined eligible for a federal Pell Grant
*be a U.S. citizen, or other eligible non-citizen
*be enrolled in a two- or four-year degree program at SIUC
*be enrolled at least half-time
*have graduated from high school after Jan. 1, 2006
*not have been enrolled in an ACG-eligible program while at or below age of
compulsory school attendance
*Students also must graduate from Recognized Rigorous Secondary School
Programs of Study, which set curriculum standards for high schools and
students. Such standards include a set of courses similar to the State
Scholars Initiative, which include:
*four years of English
*three years of math, including algebra I and a higher level course such as
algebra II or geometry, among others
*three years of science, including at least two courses from among biology,
chemistry or physics
*three years of social studies
*one year of foreign language
Students
interested in the Materials Science and
Engineering (MatSE) program at the University of Illinois

information about their program, scholarships, and the MatSE High School
Visit Day. Graduates with degrees in MatSE find jobs in aerospace,
automotive, biomedical, chemical, electronics, energy, consulting, and
telecommunications industries.
John A. Logan College offers tuition and fee waivers for any student who has a 30 or more on their composite ACT and is a graduate of one of the local in-district high schools. Through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, Congress created the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program that provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. Eastern Illinois University
offers the Presidential Scholars Program.
It is
a concentrated scholarship and citizenship experience designed to foster and
promote the highest possible standards of academic and personal excellence
in students. Minimum criteria: 30 ACT and either 4.375/5.0 GPA or top 10%
of class OR 28 ACT and either 4.69/5.0 GPA or top 5% of class. Visit
