The girls’ physical education classes of Carterville High School spent the last two weeks in “Survivor” mode. Classes were divided into “tribes” in order to work out solutions to problems, situations and experiences to make them more cohesive as a group. Talking out a problem, sporting a positive attitude, encouraging others, and not giving up were some of the main themes of the past two weeks - traits hopefully all will continue to display throughout the school year.
Each “tribe” had their own flag, tribe name, and shirt color. The shirts were made possible through contributions from Cash’s Baker Cheverolet, Vogler Ford, Auffenberg of Carbondale and Vic Koenig Cheverolet. Attitude Designs helped design the shirts and the classes did the rest of the work. Winning “tribes” from each class were rewarded with a “tribal torch”presentation at the conclusion of each day’s competition. Instead of the usual “tribal council” and exclusion of a tribe at the end of the day, all the other tribes were encouraged to follow in a victory lap with the winning tribe leading the way.
The students came away with a better understanding of how their community, school, and classmates can come together for one purpose and make great things happen!
