This course is a continuation of your studies in Language Arts. All the skills you learned in previous years will be utilized, plus you will learn a few more.
Literature and writing skills are powerful tools. Our language leads to our success or failure. If you have respect for your own thoughts, you surely want to share them with others. Your effectiveness of sharing those thoughts depends on your skill with language.
Reading makes good writers. Writing makes good readers. The more practice you get with each makes you a better communicator.
Out two texts for this class are Prentice Hall Literature, Grade 10 and Writer’s Choice, Grammar and Composition. Many different genres of literature will be explored. Grammar will be restricted to the most common errors of students of your ability. We will include occasional vocabulary drills.
Particular areas of study include— Julius Caesar, by William ShakespeareTo Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper LeeA Separate Peace, by John KnowlesNight by Elie WieselTwo research papers utilizing MLA style will be written.
