This course will study the science of psychology from a historical perspective, how it was formed and up to modern methods used.
Psychology has much to offer individuals, groups and society as a whole. As we study the mind and how it works, the practical application of the class will be very valuable to student learning.
Research methods will be examined, taking a close look at the whys and hows of the scientific method.
A wide variety of people exists in society, and an appreciation for that human diversity is one component of studying psychology. Whether it be a serious psychological disorder, or simply differences associated with multicultural perspectives, a respect and appreciation for the differences we all have is valuable in modern society.
Our text will be Understanding Psychology, by Richard A. Kasschau, Ph.D. Materials will be brought in from other media from time to time. Students are asked to be aware of current issues in psychology from the media or personal experience, and bring them into the class for discussion.
Readings from the text, quizzes, vocabulary, chapter tests, experiments, and a cumulative semester exam will determine your score.
Good attendance is absolutely necessary. Do not be late with assignments. |
