Monday, Aug. 29

  • Daily Oral Language
  • Wordly Wise #2 (packet due Thursday...TEST FRIDAY)
  • Pre-reading activity to "Charles" by Shirley Jackson, clip from Dennis the Menace, read about tricksters, journal about a real-life trickster you know OR write about a time you have had a conflict with a teacher, meet the author, and discuss dynamic characters, setting, and theme.
  • Read the story aloud...predict after each page and share predictions.
  • Complete study guide questions for homework
Tuesday, Aug. 30
  • Daily Oral Language
  • Wordly Wise Pictures (all 15 of them)
  • Grammar:  Complete the Diagnostic Preview in grammar books pg. 2-3
  • Discuss questions from "Charles"
  • Explain the Comic Strip Activity and show the website students will be using tomorrow to generate their own comic strip
  • Pre-write the comic story and plan the plot events for each frame.
Wednesday, Aug. 31
  • Daily Oral Language
  • Grammar:  The Sentence (pg. 4-5) guided practice and assign pgs. 2-4 in grammar workbook
  • Computer Lab:  generating comic strip and printing results.

 

Thursday, Sept. 1
  • Daily Oral Language
  • Grade Wordly Wise #1 & review for TEST (test tomorrow)
  • (Submit grammar homework pgs. 2-4 in workbook)
  • Pre-reading activity to "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" by Rudyard Kipling: show movie clip from Jungle Book, journal, background info on mongooses and cobras, meet the author, literary element...plot, vocabulary.
  • Begin listening to the story aloud...(1/2 of the story)
Friday, Sept. 2

  • Daily Oral Language In-house Quiz
