  • NO SCHOOL - LABOR DAY!
Tues., 9/7
  • Turn in "Rikki" story map
  • Spelling #3 - entire packet (including 3X) due Thursday! Choose 5 definition to look up (front page).
  • Read "After 20 Years" (p. 323-327)
  • Answer "After 20 Years" questions (p. 327) - all parts and in COMPLETE SENTENCES!
  • Review Short Story Terms Notes - Quiz Wed.!
Wed., 9/8
  • Short Story Terms Quiz
  • Turn in "After 20 Years" questions
  • Find an example of IRONY and FORESHADOWING in "After 20 Years." Write a 2-3 sentence explanation for each.
  • Read "Bear Boy" (p. 192-195)
  • Complete WS (2 sides) for "Bear Boy"
  • Complete Character WS for "Bear Boy"
  • Spelling due tomorrow!
Thurs., 9/9
  • Turn in Spelling #3 packet (review in class)

  • Spelling Crossword due tomorrow

  • Spelling Test tomorrow (will include vocab. questions!)

  • Read "Papa's Parrot" (p. 26-29)

  • Complete "Papa's Parrot" WS

  • Complete Questions #1-5 on p. 30 (ALL parts, in COMPLETE SENTENCES!)

  • Make flash cards for each short story term from your notes. FRONT: word/BACK: definition + picture/visual aid

Fri., 9/10

  • Bell-ringer

  • Turn in Spelling Crossword

  • Spelling Test!

  • Turn in "Papa's Parrot" HW (review in class)

  • Read "Three Century Woman" (p.7-14) and "The Fall of the Hindenburg" (p. 17-18)

  • Complete "Three Century"/"Hindenburg Questions  on p. 20 - ALL parts and in COMPLETE SENTENCES!

  • Choose 10 short story terms from your notes (use 5 from each side). Write them on a blank sheet of paper (skip lines) and write a sentence explaining EACH in "Three Century Woman."

  • Study flash cards

 

 

 

Last Week

(Week of August 30, 2010)

Mon., 8/30
  • Turn in sentence fragment project (from Friday/magazines)
  • Fill out Side #1 of your short story notes. If absent, use the back of your literature book (p. R11 - R18)
  • Quiz tomorrow on Side #1 of short story notes!
  • Complete top half of each box of Predictogram WS and THEN read "All Summer in a Day" (p. 92-99)
  • AFTER reading "All Summer in a Day," use the bottom half of each Predictogram box to put each term in the spot where you now know it belongs
  • Spelling #2 - 10 definitions and Parts 1-2 (Vocab Development and Dictionary Skills) due Wed.
Tues., 8/31
  • Review and turn in completed Predictogram WS
  • Journal Entry: Write a 1-page hand-written diary entry from the point of view of the character of your choice from "All Summer in a Day."  Be sure to include your reactions and feelings to the day's events!
  • "All Summer in a Day" story map - due tomorrow
  • Complete second side of short story terms notes.  If absent, use the back of your literature book (p. R11 - R18)
  • Remember, Spelling #2 - 10 definitions and Parts 1-2 are due tomorrow
  • Bring a "treasure" from home or a one-paragraph description of it for tomorrow. Be prepared to discuss and explain!
Wed., 9/1
  • Review/turn in Spelling Parts 1-2 and 10 definitions
  • Spelling Parts 3-4 (Word Analysis, Word Applic.) and three times due tomorrow
  • Share Treasures
  • Read "The Treasure of Lemon Brown" (p. 175-184)
  • Complete p. 52-53 WS
  • Review short story terms notes
Thurs., 9/2
  • In Class: Mood/Tone activity. If absent, study mood and tone words!

  • Review/turn in Spelling Parts 3-4 and three times

  • Spelling Crossword due and TEST TOMORROW!

  • Read "Rikki-tikki-tavi" (first half - p. 198-207)

Fri., 9/3

  • Bell-ringer #3

  • Turn in Spelling Crossword

  • Spelling #2 Test

  • "Rikki-tikki-tavi" - finish reading (p. 198-213)

  • Complete "Rikki" story map. BONUS: Illustrate your favorite scene in the back (use COLOR!)
