Haake/Shepard Homework Policy |
|
Homework teaches responsibility and helps students develop
positive study habits! Student's Homework Responsibilities: Students are expected to do their
best on their homework, be neat, and complete it on time. They should keep a daily assignment book
and check it daily with their parents.
They should do the work on their own and only ask for help after they
have given it their best effort.
Students who are absent are responsible for collecting their homework
immediately when they return. If a
student is absent, assignments may be picked up at the office after 2:45.
The office is open from 2:45 – 4:30 to pick up homework. Parents will need to collects books from
the student’s locker. Parent's
Homework Responsibilities: Parents are the key to making
homework a positive experience for their children. Homework should be a top priority. Necessary supplies and a quiet environment
should be made available for the child.
It is a good idea to set a daily homework time, provide praise, and
support. Do not let your child avoid
homework nor provide excuses when work is not completed on time. You should always be able to ask your child
to see the day's assignments in his/her assignment book and check that those
assignments are completed. You may
also check daily homework assignments posted on our websites at www.cartervillelions.com.
**For your information--the school is almost always accessible--if you
hear "I left it at school", you can always go back to the school,
find a custodian, and get the necessary supplies to complete the assignment
on time. Monitor the time spent on
homework. If you notice that your
child consistently has more then 50 minutes
of homework a night, please let us know so that we might find out what the
problem is. Teacher's
Homework Responsibility: We try to provide sufficient class
time to complete most of the homework given at school. The average student should have no
more than 50 minutes of homework a night.
Some students may have more or less depending on writing speed and
ability level. Completed work will be checked. If work is not completed on time, it will
be considered late and the grade will be dropped 20%. That means that instead of making a
possible 100 points for an assignment the student will automatically be given
an 80% before grading begins. The
second day work is late the grade will be a zero. Late
Work In order to keep late work to a
minimum, we provide lots of support to the students. We each write all work on the board and
give verbal reminders. The students
write their assignments in their assignment books, which we initial every day
and ask that parents do the same. We
also post our homework on www.cartervillelions.com. When students have missing work we send
notes home in the assignment books and have the student call home as a
reminder. We would love to have no
late work! That is our goal. When there is not late work, everyone is
happy!!! Rewards, praise, and privileges will
be given to student who have work completed on time. |
