The Williamson County Spelling Bee was recently held at Washington School in Johnston City. The Carterville 5^th grade representative, Blake Hicks, was from Mrs. Shepard’s homeroom. Blake won the 5^th grade contest. The 6^th grade representative, Brooke Hewlett  was from Mrs. Pilger’s homeroom. Brooke won the 6^th grade contest. The 7^th grade representative was Emily Weisel and the 8^th grade representative was  Hannah Nelson.

 After the individual grade level winners were named the 5^th through 8^th grade winners spelled against each other for the Williamson County championship. This year 6^th grader Brooke Hewlett won the overall championship and will represent the county in Evansville, IN at the Scripps-Howard Spelling Bee. This is the next level of the spelling bee that is eventually in Washington, DC and is televised on ESPN. Congratulations to Brooke, Emily, Blake, and Hannah.
