The Cartervillle School District has received a federal grant called Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) in the amount of $380,000.  One of sixteen projects awarded in the state of Illinois, the grant is designed to increase the capacity of all teachers, library/media personnel and administration to effectively integrate technology into the curriculum as a strategy for improving student achievement.  To help us achieve that goal, the district will benefit from immersion in professional development related to use of the equipment, differentiated instruction, infusing technology into education and implementation of a technology curriculum The grant required that 25% be spent on professional development.

Along with the professional development component, most classrooms will benefit from increased hardware.  The technology components installed in each classroom will depend upon the grade level.  The range of equipment includes ceiling mounted projection devices, an interactive chalkboard, student personal response systems, and technology curriculum that will be integrated into regular instruction.

The following staff members have been selected as Technology Coaches for the district.   These coaches will receive intensive training in research-based practices, such as Differentiated Instruction, integrating technology rich units, in the use of the purchased equipment, and managing online assessments and data collection.  The Technology Coaches will receive direct support, mentoring and training from the ROE, district, and for-profit businesses that specialize in technology professional development and equipment usage.

In turn, Technology Coaches will deliver training to all teachers, administrators, and media/library specialists in intimate grade level, face-to-face settings.  In essence, the district will create its own group of "resident experts" to help participants through potential roadblocks and everyday setbacks throughout this transformational process.
