The Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Programs have awarded over $175 million in college scholarships to deserving students. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarships range in value from $10,000 to $25,000. Students may apply online until October 25, 2020 at scholars.horatioalger.org.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors each year. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, and their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. Southern Illinois Builders Association (SIBA) Scholarship Fund applications are now available online for students pursuing degrees in the fields of Construction Management/Construction Related Engineering/Architecture. The annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards application is now available online. Visit spirit.prudential.com and click on the “Apply Now” link. Once you have completed the application, go to the “Certification” page to either email certification to your certifier or to print them out in order to hand deliver them. This must be done by November 10, 2020. The school will then nominate the top youth volunteer for state-level honors. This person will receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award and will become eligible to win an unrestricted award of $1,000 or more, a medallion, and a trip with a parent to Washington DC next spring.

Thomas H. Moore IEC Memorial Scholarships are awarded based on grade point average, college entrance test scores, work and volunteer experience, participation in school and community activities, biographical statement and knowledge of electric cooperatives, as demonstrated by a short essay. The online application for the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is now available at jackierobinson.org. The JRF application is the vehicle through which more than 4,000 talented young minority high school students apply to become JRF Scholars and carry on the civic-minded legacy of the Foundation’s namesake, Jackie Robinson. The deadline to submit the application for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is February 1, 2021.

Marion Memorial Health Foundation Board is pleased to provide the following scholarships: $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from the area high schools (including Carterville) and the R.D. Morgan, M.D. medical scholarship to a Marion High School senior who is pursuing a career as a medical doctor. If no MHS senior meets the qualifications, the scholarship will be open to area schools. SIUC is offering a Counselor's Choice Scholarship of $1500 per year for up to 4 years to be used toward tuition costs. Special consideration will be given to students with a high school GPA between 2.75 - 3.40. Students with other GPAs may also be taken into consideration. The Kay and Walter Pape Scholarship from the Zion United Church of Christ is a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior or to an applicant who is presently attending college or trade school, or is enrolled in building construction classes, or has shown interest in the field of education through volunteer work in early childhood or in the field of education. Peoples National Bank has provided financial services to Southern Illinois since 1909. In keeping with the tradition of community service and commitment to the education of future civic and business leaders, Peoples National Bank has established an educational scholarship to assist high school graduates in continuing their education at a university, college, trade or vocational school. One $500 scholarship is being awarded by Illinois Administrative Professionals in honor of Kathryn G. Hansen. Ms. Hansen was one of the founding members of the State Universities Civil Service System, and Illinois Administrative Professionals, an organization composed of employees in civil service classifications with qualifications that meet or exceed those of Office Support Associate. The scholarship is to be used for tuition, books, or other related educational expenses at any university within the State of Illinois. The Illinois Elks Children's Care Program offers scholarships for Physical and Occupational Therapy majors, as well as Physical & Occupational Therapy Assistants. Farm Credit Illinois will award thirty $2,000 Agriculture Scholarships. Online registration and application are available at www.farmcreditIL.com. Application deadline is March 12, 2021.

Sheriff Bennie Vick will be awarding one scholarship in the amount of $500. Applicants must be permanent Illinois residents and scholarships must be utilized at institutions of higher learning within the State of Illinois. Applications are now available at your local Sheriff’s office or on the ISA Website www.ilsheriff.org. Students must complete the application, answer the essay question and return all documentation to the Sheriff’s office in their permanent county of residence by March 15, 2021. The Carterville Schools Foundation 2021 Scholarship application is now available. The scholarship is a one-time, $1,000 award, to be used by the recipient for academic purposes only. The applicant must be a graduating senior at Carterville High School, and she or he must be admitted with the intent to enroll no later than the Fall 2021 academic school year at a community college, four-year university, or a trade school located within the southern Illinois region. The Calvert Scholarship is now available to Carterville High School seniors. To apply for the scholarship, an applicant complete this form, attach a copy of your high school transcript and describe your experiences, abilities, and goals. The description may be organized as an essay or otherwise, according to your desires—that is, non-conventional forms of expression are fine. Further details can be found on the attached form above. American Legion Post 347 and American Legion Post 347 Auxiliary will offer a $500 scholarship to a CHS graduate to be used for tuition/books. Applicant must be a direct descendent of a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, living or deceased. Application can be downloaded here. The Illinois Federation of Business Women’s Clubs (IFBW) will be awarding six $2,000 scholarships to deserving young women in Illinois. Scholarship applications are due March 15, 2021, with winners to be notified no later than April 1. The Alumni Chapter of Beta Sigma Psi is offering a $3,000 scholarship given out to a Christian male freshman attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Fall 2021. The Herrin Elks Lodge #1146 is offering a scholarship to a graduating high school student who will enroll in a college or university. The student must be a relative of a member of Herrin Elks Lodge #1146. Applications can be downloaded here or picked up in the Guidance Office. Completed applications and other materials must be returned in person to the Herrin Elks Lodge by 5:00 p.m. on March 27, 2021.

SIU Credit Union offers scholarships to students enrolling into a two or four year college or university. The Illinois Masonic Children’s Assistance Program (IMCAP) administers the Norredden Gene Cowen Scholarship for young adults enrolled in vocational or trade school programs. The goal of the Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to young adults from small towns in Southern Illinois, who are pursuing a training in the vocational or technical fields. The Scholarship can be used for vocational training expenses for tuition, fees, tools, uniforms, and books. Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2021. The purpose of the Golden Apple Scholars program is to recruit talented high school students who want to become teachers. Scholars agree to teach for five years in an Illinois school of need. Scholars receive $2500 each year for their freshman and sophomore years, and $5000 each year for their junior and senior years. The Rotary International District 6510 Scholarship will fund two scholarships to an accredited College or Trade School. Awards will be $2,500.00 each. Tri-C Memorial Scholarships to attend SIUC and JALC will be awarded for the 2021-22 school year.  Applicants must be graduating seniors at CHS, enrolled at either Southern Illinois University-Carbondale or John A. Hill Scholarship applications are now available. Students must attend John A. Logan College for two years, earn a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester and remain in good standing at the college. The award also provides monies for two additional years at a four-year college or university under the same requirements. The amount of the award is determined annually. In addition to other eligibility requirements, only those seniors planning to attend John A. Logan College should download an application. The Mae West Scholarship, Jett West Scholarship, and Wyatt Allen Lindsey & Elizabeth Anne Lindsey Scholarship applications are now available. A native of Carterville, Anne West was a journalist turned professional freelance writer and was the author of both short and book-length fiction. Anne graduated from Carterville High School in 1931 and graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1935 and later did postgraduate work in journalism at the University of Missouri. Three scholarships will be awarded to one male graduate of CHS, one female graduate of CHS, and either a male or female graduate of CHS. Damas Latinas invites seniors to participate in the Spanish Essay Contest 2021. Damas Latinas is a nonprofit organization founded in 1996 in Southern Illinois. It has created an Economic Fund Program, a scholarship with the purpose of promoting among high school students the value of education as well as the importance of studying the Spanish language. They will offer scholarships to seniors who have: a 3.0 GPA or higher, three years of Spanish, one letter of recommendation from a school faculty member, and an essay written in Spanish. The LaVern and Nola McEntire Lineworker’s Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship that will help pay for costs to attend the lineworker’s school conducted by the AIEC in conjunction with Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Illinois. Children of cooperative members, relatives of cooperative employees or directors, individuals enrolled in the Lincoln Land lineworker’s school and individuals who have served or are serving in the armed forces or National Guards are all eligible for the lineworker’s scholarship. This scholarship will be based on an essay, a biographical statement, references and a recommendation that will be submitted. The deadline for this scholarship is April 30, 2021. Ongoing Deadlines

The State of Illinois offers 40 Illinois State Tuition Waivers for every State University that offers the Army ROTC program. These tuition waivers are offered for the fall and spring semesters. If awarded, 100% tuition and the General Activity Fee will be waived for that semester. A student must apply every semester. Applications are distributed the first week of each semester, and waivers are awarded by mid-semester. If awarded, the recipient must meet the basic requirements to maintain the tuition waiver for that semester.
